Not your grandma's balaboosta

Balaboosta Restaurant
New York, US

The word balaboosta comes from the Yiddish to describe that legendary Jewish homemaker, mother, and of course, wizard in the kitchen. The term is now slightly behind the times, yet for chef and owner Einat Admony it sums up the essence of the food she serves here, inspired by the recipes handed down from her mother and aunt and stretching back through generations of women.

In developing the concept and menu design for Balaboosta, we thought there could be no better representation of this spirit of family warmth and tradition than the real thing. We asked Admony for old family photos and used these as the focal point of a design that manages to be minimalist yet warm and intimate.
